This Saturday, Feb. 14, Zack Burgess celebrates 30 years as a licensed Indiana auctioneer, a milestone that finds him at the pinnacle of the profession.
As the founder of Knightstown-based Burgess Auctions LLC, Burgess is one of the few professionals in the Indianapolis “Doughnut” to combine three decades of experience with the elite Certified Auctioneers Institute (CAI) designation and a fully licensed Federal Firearms (FFL) Division.
The inclusion of a dedicated firearms division has made Burgess a critical partner for estate attorneys and executors in Hamilton, Hancock, Henry, Madison, Marion, Rush, and Shelby Counties.
“Firearms are often the most legally complex portion of an estate,” Burgess said. “By maintaining our FFL license and a dedicated firearms facility in Carthage, we provide a ‘Safe Harbor’ for executors. We handle the 4473 transfers, NICS background checks, and professional appraisals that protect the estate from liability while maximizing the return for heirs.”
Burgess, a second-generation auctioneer, has seen the industry transition from simple farm sales to high-stakes digital auctions.
