Fishers edged out host Hamilton Southeastern to win its eighth consecutive sectional championship on Saturday, Feb. 7.
The Tigers scored 539 points to the Royals’ 504. Both teams also qualified many swimmers on to the state preliminaries, which take place Friday at the IU Natatorium.
Fishers won seven events. Emily Wolf swept the 200 and 500 freestyles, both well under state cut times. Other Tigers winners were Paige Wilson in diving, Audrey Wolf in the backstroke, Ashlyn Hayes in the 100 free, and the Fishers 200 and 400 freestyle relays. The Tigers qualified 21 for state.
Hamilton Southeastern claimed the other five events. The Royals began with a win in the medley relay, then Naomi Haines triumphed in the 50 free and backstroke. Kinsey Bogaards won the individual medley and Lauren Ing placed first in the breaststroke. Southeastern totaled 15 state qualifiers.
Hamilton Heights finished fourth as a team with 213 points. Ayla Madara was the Huskies’ top finisher, taking second in the 500 free with a state cut time and also made a state cut time in the 200 free. Amira Leer also qualified for state in the 500 free.
