A man and a 17-year-old were arrested for possessing drugs and weapons after a vehicle pursuit with the Westfield Police Department.
On Tuesday, the Westfield Police Department Special Investigations Unit was conducting a drug and firearms investigation in the 17000 block of Hawaii Court. During the investigation, plainclothes detectives observed what appeared to be a drug deal taking place. Detectives followed the suspect vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop near Keystone Parkway and 116th Street. The vehicle failed to stop and a vehicle pursuit was initiated by the suspect.
The suspect vehicle fled eastbound on I-465 into Indianapolis. Officers with the Carmel Police Department and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Departments, and Indiana State Police troopers assisted in the pursuit. The pursuit ended near the intersection of Sherman Drive and 25th Street when a Carmel officer successfully deployed a PIT maneuver, disabling the vehicle.
Once the vehicle came to a stop, the front-seat passenger fled on foot, but was apprehended a short distance away and taken into custody. The driver remained with the vehicle and was also taken into custody without incident.
The fleeing passenger was in possession of a backpack containing a Glock handgun equipped with an extended magazine and a machine gun conversion device (Glock switch). The firearm had been reported stolen from Indianapolis. The backpack also contained a second Glock handgun, an additional unattached machine gun conversion device, and a pound of marijuana packaged in multiple baggies. The passenger was found to have just under $900 in cash, while the driver possessed just over $500 in cash.

Dunbar
The front-seat passenger was identified as Kharii Dunbar. Dunbar has a prior conviction for armed robbery, qualifying him as a serious violent felon. A judgment has previously been made against the 17-year-old driver for dangerous possession of a firearm.
Dunbar has been preliminarily charged with possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, two counts of possession of a machine gun, theft of a firearm, resisting law enforcement (on foot), and dealing in marijuana.
The 17-year-old was waived into adult court and preliminarily charged with two counts of possession of a machine gun, theft of a firearm, dangerous possession of a firearm, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, and dealing in marijuana.
Because of the 17-year-old’s age, a mugshot has not been provided.
