Golden Eagles split games at Lawrenceburg

Guerin Catholic’s boys basketball team went 2-2 during last weekend’s Ray Furney Classic at Lawrenceburg.

On Friday, Jan. 2, the Golden Eagles dropped their first game 71-39 to Plainfield. Jake Grissom led Guerin Catholic with 17 points.

The Golden Eagles rebounded later that evening with a 63-29 victory over Castle. Guerin Catholic outscored the Knights in each of the four quarters, leading 25-17 at halftime, then blasting through the second half 38-12.

Grissom scored 22 points for the Golden Eagles, while Andrew Reithman added 10 points. Hayden Rogers dished out seven assists and collected six rebounds, with Carter Murans also pulling six rebounds.

Guerin Catholic began the second day of the tournament, Saturday, Jan. 3, with a 71-59 win over Cardinal Ritter. The game was tied 29-29 at halftime before the Golden Eagles poured in 21 points in both the third and fourth quarters.

Murans led GC with 21 points, the first of four double-digit scorers on his team. Rogers reached double-double status with 16 points and 10 assists. Reithman scored 14 points and Grissom contributed 12 points. Reithman led the rebounds with five.

The Golden Eagles dropped their final game of the tournament, losing to Centerville 60-58. The Bulldogs were up 39-31 at halftime and held off a Guerin Catholic comeback in the second half.

Grissom scored 19 points and collected six rebounds, while Zach Tansel had 13 points. Will Bach scored 11 points and Rogers handed out eight assists.

The Golden Eagles are 6-6 and play at Bishop Chatard on Friday in a girls/boys doubleheader.
