Michael Irwin Baker

November 20, 1948 – November 29, 2025

Michael Irwin Baker, born November 20, 1948, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Mike lived a life defined by a deep devotion to those he loved and his community.

Throughout his life, Mike held many jobs, always doing what he could to support his family. His true calling, however, was serving his community. He began in Emergency Services at Wishard Hospital and later dedicated himself to the fire service, eventually serving as Fire Chief of the Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Mike was known for his irreverent sense of humor and his gift for teasing and making people laugh. Whether with a quick comment, a mischievous grin, or a perfectly timed joke, he brought levity to any room and left countless memories of shared laughter.

He cherished life’s simple joys – playing slot machines and Texas Hold’em, spending time fishing and camping, exploring new places whenever he could, and sharing his days with his beloved dog, Sammy.

Mike is survived by his wife of 25 years, Paula, his steadfast companion and closest friend, as well as his beloved children and stepchildren: Andrea Baker, Michael (Kristen) Baker, Chris (Amy) Baker, Heather Baker (Anthony Garza), Brian Anderson, Brad (Kathy) Anderson, and Justin Anderson. His legacy continues through his many grandchildren – Zachary Ylovchan, Rachel Ylovchan, Jonathon Ylovchan, Aaron Baker, Daniel Baker, Taylor Fort, Kelley Buckner, Courtnee See, Haleigh Fox, Mylee Stewart, Kade Anderson, Karly Anderson, Cooper Anderson, Nicolaus Anderson, Jeremiah Anderson, and Olive Anderson – along with 11 great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his later years.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Kathryn (Irwin) and Paul Baker; his siblings Dale, Carol (Baber), Robert, and Basil; and his grandson, Jesse Smith.

Mike’s life was marked by kindness, humor, and unwavering dedication to his family. His memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him. May he rest in peace.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mike’s life from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. December 27 at East Union Christian Church, 1711 E. 296th St., Atlanta, where loved ones will gather to share memories and honor his legacy.
