Blazers fall to Lafayette Jeff

University fell to 0-2 on the season Saturday, Nov. 8, dropping a 55-38 decision to the Lafayette Jefferson Bronchos.

The Trailblazers played their Class 4A foe even in the first quarter, leading by five points on two occasions before the Bronchos closed fast to knot the game at 16 on a late three pointer.

Nyla Blanding and Sydney Culp each scored six points in the first quarter and Gabby Culp added four.  Both teams endured a scoring drought at the start of the second quarter. The only points scored in the first five and a half minutes were a Lafayette Jefferson three pointer and a Leah Norvell free throw for University. The Blazers trailed only 22-21 with 70 seconds left in the half before the Bronchos spurted to a 29-23 halftime lead.

The visitors controlled the second half and pulled away for the win.

Sydney Culp had a game-high 15 points with Gabby Culp adding 10. Blanding tallied eight points. Norvell pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

Northern Kentucky commit Maya Layton led the Bronchos with 11 points and 12 assists.

University is next in action Tuesday at Danville.
