The REPORTER

A late touchdown from Josiah Gilmore gave Carmel the go-ahead score on Friday, Oct. 17, sending the Greyhounds past Lawrence Central 36-33 in a game at the Bears’ field.

Carmel led 12-7 after the first quarter, thanks to rushing touchdowns from Andrew Pemberton (12 yards) and Anthony Coellner (one yard). In between, LC’s Santana Allen threw to Antonio Williams for the Bears’ first score.

Pemberton extended the Greyhounds’ lead with a 32-yard TD run, and Matthew Obermeier’s kick made the score 19-7. Lawrence Central then scored 20 unanswered points on three touchdowns to lead 27-19. Obermeier made a 25-yard field goal at the halftime horn to keep Carmel within 27-22.

Coellner put the Hounds ahead 28-27 with a one-yard touchdown run during the first minute of the second half. Allen threw to Williams for an 11-yard score minutes later, and a two-point run gave the Bears a 33-28 lead.

But Gilmore helped Carmel get the comeback win, running in three yards with 1:35 left in the fourth quarter. A two-point pass from Coellner to Ben Deising put the Greyhounds up by three, and Carmel held on from there.

Pemberton totaled 133 yards rushing, while Gilmore gained 103 yards. Coellner completed 14 of 21 passes.

The Greyhounds finished the regular season 8-1. Carmel is off next week, then hosts Harrison Oct. 31 in a Class 6A Sectional 3 semifinal.
