The Noblesville Lions welcomed Anna Whelchel from the Indiana State Fairgrounds to their Sept. 24 meeting. She gave an engaging presentation about the State Fairgrounds, the history, and the many events held throughout the year.
The first Indiana State Fair was held in 1852, but it didn’t have a permanent home in Indianapolis until the current fairgrounds were purchased in 1891. The fairgrounds include over 1.2 million square feet of event space on a 250-acre property. More than 400 events and 2 million visitors are hosted annually.
Whelchel shared that the No. 1 reason to attend the State Fair is the food – both eating it and learning about it.
