Noblesville boys, Carmel girls win county cross country meet

Hamilton County’s top-ranked cross country teams lived up to their state rankings at the Saturday, Aug. 30 county cross country meet.

The Noblesville boys cruised to victory at their home course at White River Elementary, scoring 33 points to win the team trophy. Carmel’s girls team was just as dominant, placing four runners in the top six to win with a total of 25 points.

The Millers boys team was led by Banner Barnes, who sailed to the individual championship in a time of 15 minutes, 3.7 seconds. Teammates John Libs (third, 15:07.4) and Isaiah Vohs (fourth, 15:29.0), gave Noblesville three of the top four runners.

Carmel and Fishers both scored 67 points, with the Greyhounds getting second place on the sixth-runner place. Jonah Kaul took fifth for Carmel, while Nate Thomas led the Tigers by taking sixth.

Hamilton Southeastern finished a close fourth with 68 points. Liam Powers was the individual runner-up.

In the girls race, the Greyhounds’ Larkin Taylor led an exceptionally fast race – each of the top five runners finished in under 18 minutes. Taylor won in 17:33.0, with teammate Sadie Foley placing second in 17:35.7. Annabel Pollert took fifth place.

Westfield scored 61 points for team runner-up honors. Alivia Lozier led the Shamrocks by taking third place.

Fishers finished third as a team, totaling 77 points. Caitlin Hawkins placed fourth for the Tigers.

Hamilton Heights’ girls justified their top 25 ranking by winning the Oak Hill Invitational Saturday, Aug. 30.

The Huskies won with 27 team points and placed four runners in the top 10. Allie Bushey won the race in 18:35.6, while Lillian Higgins was third (19:07.7). Anna Monnin placed fifth (20:03.1) and Matilda Higgins finished seventh (20:16.8). Other runners were: 11. Ayla Madara, 20:28.5, 14. Amira Leer, 20:34.4, 31. Selah Heuer, 22:32.3 and 32. Hattie Graham, 22:39.6.

Heights’ boys team placed third with 67 points, just behind winner Oak Hill’s 63 points and runner-up Delta’s 64 points. Isaiah Heuer finished as runner-up in a time of 16:26.1.
