Soccer: HSE girls win conference opener

The Hamilton Southeastern girls soccer team won its Hoosier Crossroads Conference opener Wednesday, beating Franklin Central 8-0.

Blair Satterfield scored the Class 3A No. 1 Royals’ first goal unassisted. Riley Boyd put in the next two goals, with Rebekah Tekroney assisting her first goal and Rylie Bridges assisting Boyd’s second goal.

Sydney May scored Southeastern’s fourth goal, with Sloane May on the assist. Kherington Patton added the Royals’ fifth goal, then Sloane May scored the sixth goal, assisted by Addi McClain. Sophia Reising scored HSE’s seventh goal, then Sydney Cook completed the Royals’ scoring, assisted by Sloane May.

Southeastern is 2-0 and plays at 3A No. 4 Crown Point Friday evening.

The Hamilton Heights boys team won its season opener Tuesday, beating Yorktown 6-0.

Elliot Speckman scored three goals for the Huskies, followed by one goal each for Matthew Lynas, Ethan Colvin and Zach Adams. Colvin had one assist. Aidan Furst made five goalkeeper saves, while Andrew Smucker had three saves.

Heights plays at Mt. Vernon tonight.

The Sheridan girls played to a 3-3 tie at Northwestern on Wednesday.

The 1A No. 14 Blackhawks led 1-0 at halftime before the Tigers tied the game in the second half. Jada Tretch scored her first-ever varsity goal to put Sheridan ahead 2-1, but Northwestern scored twice to take a 3-2 lead.

The ‘Hawks began their scoring drive with 14 minutes left in the game. Sadie Timme passed to Avery Hills, then Hills sent the ball into the upper right corner to tie the game. The score stayed 3-3 until the end.

Sheridan coach Brian Prange said Ji Warren was the player of the game.

“Ji earned the honor by stepping into a new position when the team needed her most, then later shutting down a key opponent to help secure the draw,” said Prange.

The Blackhawks are 1-0-1 and host Frankfort tonight.

The Guerin Catholic girls dropped a 2-0 game at 3A No. 14 Zionsville on Wednesday.

The 2A No. 7 Golden Eagles are 0-2 and play Friday at 3A No. 3 Carmel.
