Umthum leads after Day 1 of Junior PGA

Noblesville’s Jackson Umthum is on top of the leaderboard at the Indiana Junior Boys PGA Championship.

The recent Noblesville graduate scored a five under par 67 to lead the field after the first day of the two-day tournament, which is taking place at Rock Hollow Golf Course in Peru. Umthum made six birdies in his round and holds a one-stroke advantage over a three-way tie for second place.

Carmel incoming junior Alex Gardner is tied for fifth place after the first round with a three under par 69. Gardner finished his round with an eagle on the 18th hole, this after making three birdies during his round.

Thomas Klinker, an incoming Fishers senior, carded a two under par 70 to place himself in a four-way tie for seventh. Klinker’s round included two birdies.

Here is a list of top area scores from Day 1. The 36-hole tournament finishes tomorrow.
