Susan M. Laughlin

May 6, 1948 – February 17, 2025

Susan M. Laughlin, 76, Anderson, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025, at her home. She was born on May 6, 1948, to Jack and Margaret (Brayton) Srader in Indianapolis.

For many years, Susan was an executive secretary for G.E. in New York, and then organized charity bicycle events and competitions for Tour De Tucson. She traveled extensively, loved cruises, loved to cook, loved theater, played cards and games, enjoyed life, and loved to make people laugh. She loved everything in Florida, especially the beaches. In the last few years, when she did not travel, Sue combined her love for doing puzzles and musicals, by having a puzzle competition every night with her sister while singing musicals.

Her grandson, Kal, wrote: “One thing I will always remember about Grandma is her joy. Her laughter is so infectious and fills the space she is in. A sound I will miss greatly. She lived her life with such great joy, something we could all use to learn from. She reminds us all to not take life so seriously, and to laugh more often. Let things go more often. She was always so nonconfrontational, almost to a fault. But at the same time, it’s something to take note of. Sometimes it truly is better to just let things go and keep focused on yourself rather than to be consumed by conflicts and drama.

She always loved my hugs. I loved hers even more. I loved spending time with her, talking about anything and everything under the sun, even things we probably should not have talked about. Some of the stories I have about Grandma, I can’t very well write about them. Some of them push the bounds of legality and I don’t wish to offend anyone. Needless to say, we were close and sometimes maybe a little too close. But I cherish every second and I wouldn’t change anything at all, except maybe the fact that I did not spend enough time with her growing up.”

What a wonderful tribute to such a beautiful woman. She greeted everyone with open arms, open heart, and laughter. She will be profoundly missed.

She is survived by her sisters, Sharon Allman and Betsy (Mark) Macke; stepdaughter, Marianne Laughlin; grandson, Kalvin Laughlin (Nathanial Rausch); nephews, Martin (Amber) Dankert, Brian Dankert, Scott (Dana) Macke, Michael (Jade) Macke, Patrick (Sara) Macke, Steven Macke, Willie (Mary) Ogden, and Patrick (Oben) Fandja; and her niece, Jessica (Jay) Dunn.

In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Richard Laughlin; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Laughlin; and her brother-in-law, Timothy Ray Allman.

Private family services will be held.
