Every year, as State Treasurer, I visit all 92 counties to hear directly from Hoosiers about their concerns and what our state government can do to improve their lives. And everywhere I travel across the state, there is Mike Braun, listening to Hoosiers talk about their concerns.
In just a few short weeks in office, Governor Braun has made it clear that the complex challenges our state faces will no longer be an excuse for state government inaction. As a small government conservative, I fully support his vision for a streamlined, accountable, responsive government that allows Hoosiers to keep more money in their pockets and his desire to reduce unnecessary regulations that stifle growth and drive up costs for Hoosier families and businesses.
I come from Martinsville, so I know the importance of supporting the hard-working men and women of our rural communities. They face unique challenges. Governor Braun and I are committed to being their voice at the Statehouse. Any statewide elected official who spends time with their constituents has heard that property taxes are one of the biggest concerns for Hoosiers across our state. However, few politicians have been courageous enough to step forward with reforms that protect the funding of local government’s essential needs, like public safety and infrastructure, while also providing relief to taxpayers. Governor Braun’s clear support for property tax reform proves he has the strength and will to do what is right for Hoosiers.
What’s most refreshing is that Governor Braun’s approach is the opposite of many in Washington. He wants to get things done and make government accountable. His executive orders will lead to 5 percent savings across state agencies, cut 25 percent of regulations across the board, and bring government workers back to the office. He understands that every dollar saved, every reform enacted, and every barrier removed translates directly to a better quality of life for Hoosiers. Unlike in Washington, where gridlock often prevents real solutions, Indiana has the opportunity to lead with a results-driven agenda.
As State Treasurer, I work every day on managing the funds for two of Indiana’s newest school choice programs, and I could not be more excited to work with a governor dedicated to ensuring that all Hoosier families have access to the highest quality education. The Governor’s support for programs our office manages, like Indiana Education Scholarship Accounts (INESA) and Career Scholarship Accounts (CSA), shows he is serious about revamping our state’s approach to education to put parents back in the driver’s seat and sets our next generation up for success. I look forward to working with Governor Braun to make education in our state the best in the nation.
These important issues – property taxes, government efficiency, and education – are only the tip of the iceberg. Governor Braun’s time in business and at all levels of government has given him the experience necessary to address issues that families talk about at their kitchen tables across our state.
One thing that has become evident through the Governor’s successes in business, the Statehouse, and Washington, D.C., is that a promise made by Mike Braun is a promise kept, and our state could not be in better hands going forward. As State Treasurer, my office will continue to partner with Governor Braun to ensure no Hoosier is forgotten. By listening to people over politicians, Governor Braun will lead Indiana to its best future.
