CARMEL – The Noblesville gymnastics team hosted its Senior Night meet Thursday at Hollywood All-Stars in Carmel.
The Millers were joined in the meet by Westfield’s team, as well as gymnasts from Fishers and Tipton. The Shamrocks won the team competition with a score of 94.275 points, while Noblesville scored 93.325 points.
“I thought it was a fantastic meet for us,” said Westfield coach Ally Dunkin. “We got to celebrate our seniors today, which was awesome to celebrate them.”
The Shamrocks’ top performers were Avery Mason, who placed second in the uneven bars, floor exercise and the all-around, and Isa Galan, who took second in the vault with a score of 8.50, the highest Westfield score of the night.
Dunkin said the highlight of the meet was senior Layla Ryan, who put in some new tumbling passes during her floor routine. She also credited Galan with a “great beam routine” today; Galan scored 8.075.
Dunkin also said that the season has been “amazing” so far.
“We have improved out team score every single meet so far, except for this one,” said Dunkin. “Our skills are stronger. We’ve got three amazing all-arounders this year and I’m looking forward to this season.”
Noblesville had the all-around champion: Valorey Bittles. The sophomore scored 33.75 to claim victory and won three events: the uneven bars (8.075), the floor exercise (8.725) and the balance beam (8.85, the highest score of the night. McKenna Watson placed first on the vault with an 8.55.
“I think we had five or six PRs tonight,” said Millers coach Erica Eder. “I’m very happy with the kids. They did a great job. We’ve been battling illness and injury, so the fact that they came out and were able to PR, I’m very proud of them.”
Noblesville has been busy since starting its season earlier this month. The Millers scored a 93.175 at the Franklin Central Invitational on Jan. 18, then hosted Bloomington South on Jan. 20 and totaled 94.70. Bittles posted a 9.025 on beam at that meet and an 8.90 on the floor. Noblesville scored a 90.10 at the Concordia Carter Classic last Saturday, with Watson posting an 8.90 on the vault.
