Prepare to be amazed as two art forms collide in Breakin’ Classical, when Guest Conductor Mélisse Brunet leads the Carmel Symphony Orchestra (CSO) in an unforgettable evening combining the high-energy artistry of breakdancing with timeless classics from the musical canon.
Houston-based FLY Dance Company will bring their unique “theatrical hip hop” style to The Palladium at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, creating a stunning visual and auditory experience.

About Mélisse Brunet
Mélisse Brunet is one of the five conductors featured in the documentary Maestra by the Director Maggie Contreras and produced by David Letterman and Melanie Miller (“Navalny”). Maestra garnered second place in the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival Audience Award for Best Documentary.
The film’s exploration of Brunet’s daring journey at the international La Maestra competition and has received rave reviews in the press, including two articles in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and the Hollywood Reporter.
Renowned as a conductor of “uncommon emotional intensity” (Marie-Celine) and a “force at the podium” (Eugene Scene), American conductor Brunet is a native of Paris, France, with Spanish and Italian roots. She is quickly gaining attention on both sides of the Atlantic as a skilled and polished conductor. In July 2022, she became the fifth Music Director of the Lexington Philharmonic, and the first woman to hold the position. About FLY Dance Company
FLY Dance Company is an all-male theatrical hip-hop dance company based in Houston. The company is known for its high-energy performances with clever staging to a variety of music including classical, jazz, pop, hip hop, experimental, drumming, and live sound effects. The Propellerheads, Debussy, James Brown, Michael Jackson, The Flamingoes, Nat King Cole, and Vivaldi are a few of the music’s artists and composers.

Recently, FLY has toured the U.S., partnered with the U.S. Embassy to take their programs and concerts overseas, and celebrated their 20th anniversary with the return of Kathy Wood as Artistic Director.
As well as inspiring the youth with its educational shows through its brother company Houston Healthy Hip Hop, founded by Chris Cortez (FLY Director), HHH also provides after school programs in over 10 school districts inside and outside the Houston area. The HHH staff includes members of FLY Dance Company and is a training ground to build passionate instructors and performers. FLY has also introduced “FLY KIDS,” the dance and performance training program for younger students. FLY builds their confidence, teamwork, teach positive values and provide a positive environment to help students succeed in the performing arts.
