In recognition of Memorial Day, Jennifer McCormick, Democratic candidate for Governor, released the following statement.

McCormick

“As a proud military mom, Memorial Day has a special meaning. Indiana has a proud tradition of service,” McCormick said. “Generations of Hoosiers have fought to protect our rights and freedoms and to secure a better future for all. On Memorial Day, we honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Join me in recognizing and thanking those who have and are currently serving in our armed services.”

Indiana has more than 372,000 veterans. With another 3,000 current active-duty service members and 21,500 National Guard and reserve members, the values of service, sacrifice, and duty run deep in the hearts of Hoosiers. We must also acknowledge the commitment of the families who also sacrifice to allow their loved ones to serve our great nation.

“Join me in recognizing and thanking those who have and are currently serving in our armed services.” The former is Veterans Day, the latter is Armed Forces Day (June 15). Monday is for those who died. Please stop mixing them together, it cheapens remembering and praying for those who did die.
