Softball: HSE shuts out Westfield, Noblesville beats Carmel

The Hamilton Southeastern softball team beat Westfield 3-0 in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference and all-county softball game Thursday at the Shamrocks’ field.

The Royals got on the board in the first inning when Addy Justice got home on an error. Alex Kiemeyer hit a fourth-inning home run to put Southeastern up 2-0, then Sayla Stock singled in Chloe Smith for a sixth inning run.

Kiemeyer had two hits in total. Grace Swedarsky pitched a complete game, striking out 15 against two hits. Makayla Watson and Cara Snedeker each had one hit for the Shamrocks. Chloe Tanner also pitched a complete game, tossing 17 strikeouts.

Southeastern is 5-1 in HCC play and 17-4 overall. The Royals play games Saturday against Fort Wayne Carroll and South Bend St. Joseph. Westfield is 1-5 in the conference and 10-10 overall and plays Saturday morning at Mooresville.

Noblesville also won an all-county game on Thursday, beating Carmel 4-3 at the Millers’ field.

Noblesville scored two runs in the first inning. Bella Hughes singled in Delaney Rundle for the first run, then was sent home by Reese Newsom’s RBI fielder’s choice.

The Greyhounds got a run back in the fourth inning. Jayden Kleiner led off with a double, then scored on Mia Fleming’s RBI groundout. But Newsom struck again in the fifth inning with a two-run single to left field that scored Nevaeh Nash and Rundle.

Carmel scored two runs in the seventh inning: Katherine Smith doubled in Emily Smith, who was courtesy running for Fleming. Emily Smith then came back in to bat and hit a sacrifice fly to score Winni Owens. But Emme Yee got a strikeout to finish the game.

Rundle totaled two hits, while Addi Emmerson and Mack Harvey both hit a double. Lulu Van Beek went six and two-thirds innings for the win, striking out six. Yee relieved her to get the final strikeout. Kleiner hit two doubles for the Greyhounds, while Chelsea Bennett pitched a complete game and struck out six.

The Millers are 13-9 and play a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game tonight at Brownsburg. Carmel is 8-15 and plays tonight at Terre Haute North.
