Softball: Southeastern takes care of Pendleton, Huskies score 13-inning win over Tigers

Hamilton Southeastern scored a big win on Friday, beating a solid Pendleton Heights team 3-1 at the Arabians’ field.

The Royals scored their first run in the third inning when Reese Garland batted in Jenna Chase with a right field hit. Chase hit a double to get on base.

Garland struck again in the fifth inning, with a single to bring Lani Wyrick home. Addy Justice drove in the third run, hitting a single to score Makenna Selm.

Justice had a perfect night at the plate, going 4-for-4. Garland had two hits. Grace Swedarsky pitched a complete game, striking out 10 and allowing three hits.

Southeastern is 12-3 and plays a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game Monday at Zionsville.

Hamilton Heights scored a walk-off Hoosier Conference East game on Thursday, beating Northwestern 6-5 in 13 innings.

With two outs, Hannah Dent reached on error, then stole second base. Lily Cash came up and smacked a hit into center field, bringing Dent home for the winning run.

The Huskies scored three runs in the first inning. Dent led off with a double, then Cash singled her in with a left field hit. Cash scored when Kamryn Rhoton reached on error, then Rhoton scored on Kassidy Schakel’s RBI groundout.

The Tigers scored two runs in the third inning, then took a 4-3 lead with two runs in the top of the fifth. But Heights tied the game in the bottom of the fifth: Lily Roush scored when Rhoton reached on error.

The score stayed at 4-4 until the 12th inning. Northwestern went up 5-4 on a sacrifice fly, but Cash erased that in the bottom of the inning with a lead-off home run. Cash got two strikeouts in the top of the 13th, then Hailey Hall’s center field catch ended the inning and brought the Huskies to the plate.

Cash had four hits; she, Roush and Dent all hit one double. Roush pitched nine innings, striking out 13, while Cash threw four innings and tossed six strikeouts.

Heights followed that game with a regional championship re-match on Friday with Beech Grove. The Hornets scored in the seventh inning to win 8-7.

Beech Grove led 5-0 after the top of the first inning. The Huskies got two runs back in the bottom of the first: Cash scored when Rhoton drew a bases-loaded walk, then Heather Crays got home on Schakel’s RBI fielder’s choice.

The Hornets scored two runs in the top of the second. Heights got one run in the bottom of the second when Dent doubled Hall home. The Huskies added two runs in the fourth: A Nickerson scored on Crays’ RBI groundout, then Addie Doak got home on a Dent hit.

Roush blasted a two-run triple in the sixth inning to bring Doak and Crays home and tie the game at 7-7. But Beech Grove scored on an RBI double, then held Heights off in the bottom of the seventh.

Cash, Dent and Hall each had two hits.

The Huskies are 9-5 and play Wednesday at Anderson.

Carmel won an all-county game with Guerin Catholic 14-0 Friday at the Golden Eagles’ field.

Jayden Kleiner, Alex Longstreth, Gracyn Erickson and Winni Owens all had two hits for the Greyhounds. Mia Fleming and Ellie Goddard both hit triples, while Owens and Kayden Dierks both had one double.

Kleiner scored three runs and batted in two, with Owens driving in three runs. Chelsea Bennett pitched a complete game, allowing only two hits. Madi Cain and Lauren Brady had one hit each for the Golden Eagles.

Carmel is 5-13 and plays Wednesday at Cathedral. Guerin Catholic is 1-8 and plays at Danville this morning.

Fishers picked up a 4-0 Hoosier Crossroads Conference victory over Zionsville Friday.

The Tigers scored all of their runs in the first inning. Kate Murray batted in Hailey Trueblood with a left field hit, Tori Abel doubled Brooke Johnson and Brooke Clayton home, then Abel scored when Hailey Kinder reached on error.

Trueblood, Murray and Abel each had two hits. Murray pitched a complete game, throwing six strikeouts.

Fishers is 2-2 in HCC play and 11-6 overall. The Tigers host Avon Tuesday for another conference game.

Westfield got a Friday win at Tri-West, by the score of 4-2.

The Bruins scored a run in the first inning. The Shamrocks tied the game in the third inning: Cara Snedeker got on base with a double, then scored on Ava Kainrath’s right field hit. Kainrath struck again in the fifth inning, cracking a three-run home run. Sofia Easterhaus and Snedeker also scored.

Chloe Tanner got the complete-game win.

Westfield is 8-7 and plays Monday at Lawrence North.

Sheridan fell to Clinton Central 15-0 in a five-inning Hoosier Heartland Conference game on Friday.

Maelei Casler and Shelby Eaton each had one hit for the Blackhawks.

Sheridan is 2-10 and hosts Guerin Catholic on Monday.
