Carmel Community Players will hold auditions this weekend for its upcoming Rising Star Production of Anne of Green Gables.

The play may center on the spirited red-headed everyone knows and loves, but the story on stage features a variety of male characters.
- Matthew Cuthbert – Bachelor farmer who oversees Green Gables with his spinster sister Marilla. He is a hardworking, quiet, caring man, and is painfully shy around women. Anne considers Matthew a kindred spirit and always turns to him when she wants a sympathetic ear.
- Phillips – The Avonlea schoolmaster. He is a contrast- inattentive/authoritarian or “gushy” nice. He does not take to Anne’s classroom outbursts.
- Moody MacPherson – One of Anne’s classmates, Sweet, and kind to all. Moody, unlike Charlie and Gilbert, is quiet and focused in class. Looks to be a Minister one day.
- Charlie Sloane – Anne’s classmate, a rowdy practical joker, looks to be in Parliament when he grows up.
- Gilbert Blythe – He is Anne’s classmate and occasional rival, the heartthrob of the Avonlea schoolhouse, he is athletic, popular, and very intelligent, usually standing toe to toe with Anne in academic and professional achievement.
- Reverend Bentley – Town preacher. Doesn’t have a strong memory. Due to be retired because of his memory.
- Jerry Buote – French Farm hand to Matthew. Hired for his strength and youth. He is a sweet boy who would do anything for the Cuthbert’s.
- Reverend Allan – New Reverend in town. Took over after Rev. Bentley retired. Is nervous but excited about this new opportunity.
- Jimmy Glover – Friends with the other boys at school. Plays along with teasing the girls.
- Sadler – An out-of-town businessman with ties to the town and stops by to discuss matters of buying Green Gables. Is kind and respectful.
