Bodie Derrer, Hamilton Heights senior, has signed a letter of intent to play football for Ball State University this fall. Ball State University is a member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and is a NCAA Division I athletic institution. He is the son of Lindsay and Rusty Derrer.

Derrer scored an offer and opportunity to play college football and continue his education at Ball State University – one of the top universities in the state. BSU offers a robust and well-respected business program and highly competitive football program. “They have an excellent coaching staff that is committed to player development on and off the field,” said Derrer, who plans to study business and major in finance. His goal is to pursue a career as a financial advisor and have his own firm. “I will have the opportunity to learn more skills to become a better athlete while still gaining a great education here.”

Derrer is as strong in the classroom as he is on the field. A Blue-Grey All American player, an Elite 111 Invite, named All Conference twice, Offensive Player of the Year and served twice as Team Captain of Hamilton Heights varsity football team. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and Bethel Lutheran Church.

Derrer has had a deep passion for football from the time he first started playing in kindergarten. He began training at the XFactor QB Academy in Westfield, Indiana, with Coach Anthony Morelli in the seventh grade. Additional training with Coach Morelli over the years has helped increase Derrer’s skills, accuracy, speed and knowledge of the game and a successful quarterback for Hamilton Heights.

He credits his parents for their support and help in achieving his dream. “I give thanks to them for everything they have done along the way. I also thank Coach Morelli for pushing me every day and believing in me.”

“Bodie Derrer is a tough, talented, and intelligent football player who thrived in his role at quarterback the past few years for the Huskies,” said Jon Kirschner, Hamilton Heights High School Varsity Football Coach. “His hard work on and off the field helped him play a pivotal role in our run at perfection this past season which included a conference title, first undefeated regular season in more than a decade, and a chance at our first sectional title in nine years. His work ethic and passion for the game of football have allowed him to become an effective captain the last two years. Bodie is definitely going to be missed but I know he is going to do big things at the next level, and we wish him the best at Ball State.”

“We are excited for the opportunity in front of Bodie to play Division I football,” said Kurt Ogden, Athletic Director, Hamilton Heights High School. “He is so passionate about the sport, and he’s worked so hard.  I don’t know if I’ve seen another athlete make the kind of strides he made from his freshman year to his senior year. That’s all attributed to the investment and commitment he made to his personal development as a quarterback. We wish him the best at Ball State.”

“I am very excited to live my dream of playing football at Ball State University,” added Derrer. “I am truly grateful to Ball State for giving me this opportunity and to everyone who has supported and helped me achieve this goal.”
