Noblesville splits basketball doubleheader with Zionsville

The Noblesville basketball teams split a Hoosier Crossroads Conference doubleheader at Zionsville on Friday.

In the girls game, the Millers dropped a roller-coaster overtime contest to the Eagles 71-66. Zionsville led 20-10 after one quarter, but Noblesville stormed back in the second period to go up 34-33 by halftime. Meredith Tippner had nine points in the second quarter and Reagan Wilson scored eight; both made two 3-pointers.

The Millers went up 50-41 after three quarters, with Tippner nailing two more 3s. But the Eagles stunned Noblesville in the fourth, scoring 17 points to tie things up at 58-58 by the end of regulation. Zionsville then outscored the Millers 13-8 in the extra period.

Tippner finished with four 3s and 23 points, also collecting five rebounds. C.C. Quigley added 14 points, Ava Shoemaker hit three 3s for 13 points, also getting seven steals, five rebounds and four assists. Wilson had 11 points.

In the boys game, Class 4A No. 5 Noblesville held off a late run by Zionsville to win 62-59. The Millers led 16-13 after one quarter and 28-25 at halftime. Noblesville poured in 22 points in the third quarter to take a 50-37 lead, and that allowed the Millers to withstand a 22-point fourth quarter from the Eagles.

Hunter Walston scored 18 points for Noblesville, followed by 15 for Justin Curry and 14 for Aaron Fine. Curry had eight rebounds and Walston grabbed six.

The Millers’ girls team is 3-3 in the conference and 11-8 overall and hosts Harrison Tuesday. Noblesville’s boys are 1-1 in HCC play and 11-1 overall and host Connersville tonight.
