NOBLESVILLE – Noblesville swim coach Aleks Fansler has a really fun “problem,” if you can call it that.
The coach was talking after the Millers competed in a three-team meet with North Central and University at the Noblesville pool. The Millers won all parts of the meet, with both the boys and girls teams getting close victories over a competitive Panthers squad.
“I think the season’s been really fun,” said Fansler. “I think what’s fun about it is, we’ve got more depth than I think maybe we’ve ever had, especially on the girls’ side.”
As a result, Fansler has been putting in a “completely different lineup” at every meet Noblesville has competed in this season.
“It’s made my job a little hard at times with conference lineups, because I didn’t know where to put everybody,” said Fansler. “But it makes it fun too, because when we go to different meets, kids are swimming totally different things and we’re still competing at a really high level and we’re winning a lot of dual meets right now, so it’s a lot of fun for the kids as well.”
The Millers have several senior leaders on the team this year. For the girls, that includes Maya McDonald (a state medalist in the breaststroke last year) Emily Knott and Mia Field. McDonald picked up two individual wins on Tuesday, taking the 50 freestyle and the butterfly races.
The boys team also features a nice number of seniors, including Graham Kulp, Mason Snyder, Zak Armstrong, Shepard Huff, Caleb Mathis, Sean Halvorsen and Mark Berger.
Halvorsen placed first in the individual medley, while Snyder won the 500 free. Fansler said this year’s seniors “wanted to take a step in that leadership position and put a lot emphasis on it.”
In the girls meet, junior Exley Tricker won the 200 and 500 freestyles, while sophomore Haddie Vohs was first in the IM and backstroke. Noblesville also won the medley relay, which consisted of junior Julia Santerre, Tricker, Vohs and McDonald.
Noblesville’s boys got two additional wins, from junior Aiden Kless in diving and sophomore Lane Monger in the breaststroke.
University senior Neiman Kumler had the best finish for the Trailblazers, as he took second in the boys 50 and 100 freestyle events.
