The Westfield Shamrocks went into Friday night’s game as one of 10 teams in the state of Indiana that still hasn’t lost.
Westfield, ranked No. 2 in the Class 4A Associated Press poll and No. 3 in the IBCA poll, hit the road last night to the southwest side of Muncie to face the Yorktown Tigers. It took very little time for the ‘Rocks to take control on the road and cruise to a 64-38 win to stay amongst that unblemished group.
Westfield had Yorktown in a hole early with a 13-7 margin through one quarter. The Shamrocks would keep rolling in the second, doubling up the Tigers 12-6 for a halftime lead of 25-13.
Yorktown went toe-to-toe and took the third 17-16, but Westfield still held firm to a double-digit lead 41-30.
The fourth belonged solely to Westfield. The ‘Rocks shifted it into high gear with a 23-8 stronghold on the Tigers to pull away for a convincing 64-38 win.
Charles Farrell led the ‘Rocks with 20 points, including four three-pointers. Trey Buchanan made three triples; he and Nic Book each had 11.
Westfield (8-0) heads back home to CSI Gymnasium tonight to take on the Carmel Greyhounds (4-7) in an all-county matchup. Carmel has won seven of the last 10, but the Shamrocks have won three of the recent four in the series.
