Two big touchdown throws from Bodie Derrer helped Hamilton Heights to run away from the Chargers.
The Huskies beat North Montgomery 28-12 in a Friday night home game. Both teams scored a first-quarter touchdown: Derrer punched the ball in from the one-yard line just three minutes into the period, but the Chargers answered with a 24-yard touchdown pass. The score was 6-6 at the quarter’s end.
Heights had to wait until there was 3:08 left in the half to score again, but it was worth it: Derrer aired out a throw to Tyler Champion, and the junior ran it into the end zone for a 78-yard touchdown reception. Owen VanHaaren’s two-point run made it 14-6 at the break.
Derrer launched another long touchdown pass in the third quarter, teaming with Keaton Weaver for a 70-yard scoring throw. Teigan Scoles’ kick made it 21-6. North scored on another touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, but VanHaaren sealed the win with a one-yard touchdown run.
Derrer finished 10-19, totaling 258 yards. VanHaaren gained 146 yards rushing. Weaver, Champion and Jaylyn Pugh all had three receptions.
The Huskies are 2-0 and host Lafayette Central Catholic next week.
