Two area girls take part in North/ South All-Star Cup

Two area girls tennis players played in the 25th Annual North/South Senior Tennis All-Star Cup, which took place last Sunday at Community Sports & Wellness in Pendleton.

Westfield’s Alana Raymond and Zionsville’s Natalie Black both played for the South team. In the first round, Raymond played at No. 1 singles and dropped her first-round match to Claire Meyer’s New Albany 6-4, but still earned a point for the South team. Black teamed with Delta’s Janet Wegener at No. 1 doubles to take on the Oldenburg Academy team of Evelyn Storm and Mimi Wilder and won 6-2, picking up two points for the South team.

Raymond and Black played at No. 1 doubles in the second round, then tied with Franklin Community’s Ailyn Hendricks 5-5 and Oldenburg Academy’s Evelyn Storm in the second round, with both teams earning a point.

Both players returned to their original positions for the third round. Raymond played Meyer again, winning 10-8 and earning two points for the South team. Black and Wegener re-teamed for the third round, playing Hendricks and Storm and winning 10-8, with both teams scoring a point.

The North team won 27-25. All players were honored at the conclusion of the meet.
