Atlanta had an amazing time celebrating the Hamilton County Bicentennial last weekend. The town has a lot of rich history and takes pride in its tightly knit community. The event was a great opportunity to celebrate the events of the past while looking forward to the future. The town thanks everyone who came out on Saturday and Sunday – YOU are the reason that the event came to life!
The Nickel Plate Express (NPX) came to town with the Duke Energy Caboose from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday giving $5 rides. An anonymous member of the community approached NPX Executive Director Emily Reynolds when they rolled into town, handed her $100 and told her the first 20 kids would ride for free. After that, Reynolds told The Reporter she felt like she was driving the ice cream truck as kids were running home to get $5 each and running back to ride the rails. Atlanta officials called it an experience of a lifetime for a fraction of the cost thanks to NPX and Duke Energy.
Did we mention the parade? Oh yes, there was a classic small-town American parade!
