Wrestling: Westfield & Southeastern drop meets, Sheridan takes down Clinton Central, Heights places 4th at Western Super Six

The Westfield boys wrestling team gave a tough battle to No. 4-ranked Warren Central on Wednesday before falling to the Warriors 39-33.

Winners for the Shamrocks were Oliver Baud (106 pounds), Abe O’Neill (113), Porter Temples (120), Carter Niccum (126), Hank Temples (144) and Aiden Padgett (285).

Westfield is back in action Saturday at the Columbus North Duals.

Hamilton Southeastern dropped a 42-24 dual meet at Zionsville on Wednesday.

The Royals battled despite having four of their starters out. They won the first match, at 132 pounds, with Parker Culp winning by decision in a hard-fought bout. The Eagles took the next two matches to lead 9-3, but Southeastern stepped up with pins by Adam Gerstner and Zach Lang to lead 15-9.

The Royals had to forfeit at 165, which tied the score at 15-15, but regained the lead (18-15) when Landon Hicks won a 3-2 decision at 175 pounds. Zionsville then won three straight matches by fall to jump ahead 33-18 and stayed in front thereafter. Will Lakes got HSE’s final victory with a pin.

Southeastern will compete at Clinton Prairie on Saturday, then host Noblesville Tuesday.

Sheridan beat Clinton Central 40-30 in a Thursday dual meet.

Winners for the Blackhawks were Carson Ney (120 pounds), Caleb Alexander (126), Alex Cravens (150), Ryker Ream (165), Zach Bales (175), Jaden Dunbar (190) and Carsen Aleman (285).

Hamilton Heights finished fourth at the Western Super Six last Saturday.

The Huskies advanced to the third-place match after going 3-1 in their pool. Heights beat Logansport 54-24 and Madison-Grant 63-18, while losing to Harrison 45-28 and Jay County 51-24. In the third-place match, Western defeated Heights 45-29.

Three Huskies wrestlers were 5-0 for the tournament: Jaylyn Pugh was unbeaten at 144 pounds, while Carson Fettig won four matches at 150 and one match at 157.
