The Carmel wrestling team dominated an all-county dual meet with Fishers Wednesday at the Eric Clark Activity Center.
The No. 6-ranked Greyhounds beat the No. 20 Tigers 62-9. Carmel won 12 of the 14 matches, eight of them by fall.
“Their program’s getting better,” said ‘Hounds coach Ed Pendoski. “They’ve got some kids that have been wrestling for a while. The matchups were really in our favor today. I think they’re still missing some guys and so are we. We still had two in our lineup that aren’t there yet.”
Still, Carmel quickly took control of the meet, winning the first eight bouts. That included pins from Nate Powell, Jake Shafer, Gabe Davin and Garrett Sharp. Paul Grella took the 152-pound match in a major decision, with Joey Langeman, TJ Barrett and Jackson Mitchell winning by decision.
Fishers’ JD Farrell received a forfeit at 195 pounds to get the Tigers on the board. But the Greyhounds took the next four matches by fall; Haakon Van Beynen, Jonathan Williams, Suhas Chundi and Brac Hooper were the winners of those bouts.
Fishers’ PJ Prtichett won the last match of the evening, in an 8-5 decision. Tigers coach Frank Ingalls called the match “a learning experience.”
“We’re looking at it as a practice match to get ready for the end of the season, state series,” said Ingalls. “I thought our guys fought pretty hard tonight. We got a lot of young guys and we had a lot of back-ups in tonight. Almost half our team is back-ups. We got a lot of injuries right now and we just got to heal up.”
