Bill was born in Magnitogorsk, Russia, to Louis A. Ernst of Adams, Mass., and Yadviga Golimbiovskaya of Russia. His father brought him, his mother, and his sister to the United States in 1947.
Bill attended high school in New Jersey, graduated from Purdue University as a Chemical Engineer, and served in the United States Army. He worked in steel mills his entire life in the United States, Russia, Macedonia, and Hungary.
He is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Josephine “Alice” Boo; son, David William (Susan) Ernst of Tallahassee, Fla.; daughter, Catherine Ann (Christopher) Ogg of Carmel; grandson, Matthew David Ernst of Florida; granddaughters, Josephine Amelia Ogg and Elizabeth Rose Ogg of Chicago; and sister, Laura (Roger) Keister of Selinsgrove, Pa.
