Westfield basketball star Braden Smith announced on Thursday that he has committed to Purdue University.
The 6-foot junior made his announcement with a simple Twitter post: “Boiler up,” then a picture that featured the words “Braden Smith Committed,” along with a picture superimposed with Purdue logos.
Smith has been a force for the Shamrocks since his freshman season, and continued his improvement into his junior season, averaging 22.0 points, 6.2 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game. Smith got much attention in March for his 41-point performance in a sectional semi-final win over Noblesville. He had several Division I offers from schools across the country.
Smith is the latest high-profile Hamilton County basketball player to commit to Purdue. Carmel senior Brian Waddell committed last week, as part of a loaded Boilermakers freshman recruiting class.
