Westfield Youth Sports Inc. (WYSI) has announced the inaugural Tucker Swain Memorial Scholarship recipients.

Chosen from among Westfield High School’s graduating seniors of 2024 who are former participants of WYSI, the scholarship aims to honor the memory of Tucker Swain and support the academic pursuits of deserving students.

This year, the scholarship committee selected Cara Snedeker and Preston Tamm as the inaugural recipients. Each will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship, payable to the institution of their choice. Cara has chosen Butler University, while Preston is set to attend Manhattan College.

Reflecting on the overwhelming response to this year’s scholarship, WYSI Executive Director Molly Wright expressed gratitude.

“We received an exceptional pool of applications, with dozens of talented and deserving candidates vying for the award,” Wright said. “The enthusiasm and dedication these students display embody the spirit of Tucker’s legacy.”

Tucker Swain, a vibrant third-grade student at Oak Trace Elementary School, left a lasting mark on the community with his kindness, intelligence, humor, and creativity. Actively involved in WYSI sports including baseball, basketball, and football, Tucker’s passion for athletics and commitment to excellence continues to inspire.

The Tucker Swain Memorial Baseball tournament, which last weekend saw 40 teams competing in 7U to 10U age groups, raises money for the scholarships.

“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Swain family for entrusting us with the privilege of administering this scholarship,” Wright said. “As an annual tradition, we eagerly anticipate the opportunity to perpetuate Tucker’s legacy through continued collaboration with the Swain family and the celebration of outstanding student achievements.”
