Giving Tuesday, an annual charitable day of giving, is rapidly approaching.
This year’s Giving Tuesday is Tuesday, Dec. 2. There are many wonderful charities you can choose to give your donation to on Giving Tuesday, and Westfield Youth Assistance Program (WYAP) wants to share how far your donation can go.
- $50: one weekly after-school club for a youth for five to seven weeks
- $100: one-month enrollment for a class such as dance, karate, or music
- $125: one-hour therapy session for an uninsured or underinsured youth
- $165: one-hour family therapy session for an uninsured or underinsured youth
- $175: week-long summer day camp for one youth
- $200: sports registration fee for a season
- $300: week-long summer overnight camp for one youth
- $400: two months of tutoring or one youth (one-hour weekly sessions)
Note: These amounts are based on average costs of items.
As Westfield continues to rapidly expand, WYAP’s number of referrals and the need for its services continues to increase as well. Here is a quick snapshot of 2024’s numbers.
- 214 youth received WYAP’s Early Intervention Advocate services
- 100 youth referred
- 436 empowering champ and enrichment opportunities provided
- 48 youth connected with a tutor
- 34 youth connected with a mentor
One of WYAP’s main connections for youth is the Mentoring Program. In 2024, WYAP connected 34 youth with mentors who met for one hour, once a week, for a year. The mentor/mentee pairs engaged in a variety of activities when they met up, ranging from fishing to baking to attending Indianapolis Indians games. In summer 2024, WYAP held a Mentor/Mentee picnic with all of the other Youth Assistance Programs, providing them with a wonderful lunch and a chance to make new friendships.
WYAP’s goal for the 2025 Giving Tuesday Campaign is to raise $20,000, which the organization can use to continue its services. This year, your donation will double thanks to the generosity of a few anonymous donors who have come together to match up to $10,000 total.
