The Westfield Parks and Recreation Department has unveiled updated Simon Moon Park expansion project renderings and provided an update on Phase 1. This project expands the park from 5.85 acres to more than 25 acres, and will be located at 3044 E. 171st St.

Construction for Phase 1 began in early April. The sledding hill has been reshaped and work on the new entrance and parking lot expansion is progressing. The connection of the ponds to the surrounding stormwater infrastructure in the northwest corner will be completed by June 1, which will reopen the closed portion of the Midland Trace Trail. As part of this closure, the trail is being realigned for safer sight lines. Phase 1 also includes fishing piers and boardwalks and is expected to be completed by December 2024.

Phase 2 is expected to begin in June 2025 and will include a new playground, outdoor education classroom, an additional park shelter, and several additional boardwalks.

Please note that the renderings include Phase 2 elements.
