Westfield Library welcomes acclaimed children’s authors

Series offers young readers chance to learn about storytelling

The Westfield Washington Public Library (WWPL) will welcome two acclaimed Indiana-born children’s authors and illustrators this summer, offering children and their families the opportunity to hear from bestselling creators and learn about the writing and illustration process.

“We are excited to bring such talented children’s authors to our community,” WWPL Executive Director Sheryl Sollars said. “These events give readers the chance to engage directly with authors, discover new books, and gain a deeper appreciation for storytelling.”

The author series begins Friday, June 19 with Indiana native and New York Times bestselling author and illustrator Troy Cummings. Known for the popular Notebook of Doom and Binder of Doom series, as well as the award-winning picture book Can I Be Your Dog?, Cummings will share stories from his creative journey and give a behind-the-scenes look at how imagination, humor, and illustration come together in his work. A book signing will follow the presentation.

On Wednesday, July 22, author and illustrator Rob Harrell will visit the library to discuss his path from a young artist to a successful creator. This event is open to all ages. Harrell is the author of the middle-grade novels Popcorn, Wink, the Life of Zarf series, and the Batpig graphic novel series. Attendees will have the to participate in a book signing following the event.
