Westfield used a second-quarter shutout to beat Avon 62-46 Friday in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game at CSI Gymnasium.
The Orioles led the Class 4A No. 3 Shamrocks 16-15 after one quarter. Westfield responded in a big way, holding Avon to zero points while scoring 13. That gave the ‘Rocks are 28-16 halftime lead, and they cruised through the second half to victory.
Trey Buchanan scored 24 points, nailing four 3-pointers. Nic Book also had a big game, adding 23 points. That included a 5-of-5 effort from the free-throw line. Both Buchanan and Book scored in each quarter, with Buchanan getting nine in the third period.
Westfield is 4-1 in the conference and 13-1 overall. The Shamrocks host Victory College Prep tonight.
