Westfield Fire Department crews responded to a house fire on Ashfield Drive at approximately 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5. Engine 383, already in the vicinity, spotted smoke and arrived on scene just as Hamilton County Communications Center completed dispatching the call.
Firefighters deployed handlines and launched an aggressive interior attack, rapidly locating the fire in the attic and bringing it under control. No injuries were reported, and the homeowner safely evacuated with a pet.
The fire originated from open burning in a backyard fire pit, which spread across grass to the rear of the home. Vinyl siding ignited quickly, allowing flames to extend into the attic. Increased winds played a significant role in the fire’s rapid progression.
Westfield firefighters received assistance from Noblesville Fire Department, Westfield Police Department, Noblesville Police Department, and Hamilton County Public Safety Communications.
The Westfield Fire Department reminds residents to exercise extreme caution with open burning, especially during windy conditions, and to maintain safe distances from structures.
