Captain Derek Michael has been appointed Battalion Chief of Training of the Westfield Fire Department, effective Aug. 11.
With 18 years of experience as a firefighter, Battalion Chief Michael brings a wealth of firsthand knowledge on firefighting skills.
In addition to firefighting, Michael is an EMT-B and holds technical certification in Vehicle/Machinery, extrication, swift water rescue, ice rescue, hazardous materials, confined space, and rope rescue.
Married for nearly 24 years to his wife Catherine, they have made Westfield their home since 2012 and have two daughters, Halena and Ashlyn.
Chief Michael says he is “excited for this opportunity to influence young minds coming into the best job in the world. I enjoy the challenges associated with continuing education and training senior firefighters as well.”
