Volleyball: Southeastern sweeps La Porte to earn shot at state championship

The Hamilton Southeastern volleyball team is heading back to the state finals.

The Royals swept past La Porte last Saturday to claim the Class 4A north semi-state, which took place at Frankfort’s Case Arena. Southeastern beat the Slicers 25-16, 25-14, 25-13, earning its third semi-state championship and a chance to defend its 4A state title this Saturday at Ball State University’s Worthen Arena.

Lauren Harden hit 10 kills to lead the Royals, with Madi Miles putting down eight kills. Lindsey Mangelson and Tiffany Snook both hit seven kills. Madison Schicker served four aces. Ava Hunter dished out 17 assists, with Macy Hinshaw handing out 16 assists.

Kaylyn Christy and Sophie Ledbetter each had five digs. Breonna Goss made six block assists, with Snook getting four block assists.

The Royals are 32-0 for the season. Southeastern plays Castle for the 4A state championship; the Knights beat Roncalli in four sets last Saturday to win the 4A south semi-state. The 4A state title match begins at 7 p.m. Saturday at Ball State.
