The Sheridan volleyball team began the week with back-to-back match wins.
On Monday, the Blackhawks beat Tindley in four sets at Hobbs Memorial Hall. After dropping the first set 26-24, Sheridan swept the next three, 25-12, 25-12, 25-20.
Lillie Dickerson hit six kills and three aces. Taylor Bates handed out 13 assists to go with three aces. Allie Delph had eight kills and eight digs, Cheyenne Brooks contributed five kills and three solo blocks, and Becca Merritt had six kills and three solo blocks.
On Tuesday, the ‘Hawks beat Indianapolis Washington 25-3, 25-10, 25-6. Delph served 13 aces while serving 26 times and winning 24 points. Dickerson hit six kills and five aces. Bates dished out eight assists and served five aces. Brooks added four aces and two solo blocks. The Blackhawks varsity is 6-17.
Sheridan’s junior varsity team beat Shortridge 25-15, 25-6 on Tuesday. Kaiden Wilson had four aces, four kills, three digs and two blocks. Lexi Lewin served 16 times, earning 14 points, including four aces. Lilly Chesney also served four aces. Autumn Hayden had two solo blocks and Zoey Fisher handed out three assists.
Sheridan plays Thursday at Lapel.
Westfield swept Franklin Central 15-12, 25-18, 25-13 in a Monday Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.
Kenzie Daffinee put down 12 kills for the Shamrocks, with Ellary Detamore hitting 11 kills. Logan Mapes dished out 35 assists.
On defense, Grace Stewart and Marin McAndrews each had three blocks. Peighton Isley collected 13 digs and Detamore had 11.
Westfield is 1-2 in HCC play and 12-6 overall. The ‘Rocks play another conference match Thursday at Brownsburg.
Carmel picked up a Metropolitan Conference win at North Central on Tuesday, 25-21, 22-25, 25-14, 25-16.
Gabby Smith hit 15 kills for the Greyhounds, with Macarty McQueen adding 14 kills, four digs and two blocks. Anne Lesure dished out 28 assists to go with nine kills and eight digs. Ella Bostic handed out 24 assists and picked up five digs. Lexi Brehl had 12 digs and two aces, while Maria Zweig contributed eight digs and two aces.
Carmel is 4-2 in MIC play and 17-8 overall. The Greyhounds play this evening at Noblesville, with first serve at 6:30 p.m.
Guerin Catholic fell in three hard-fought sets to Covenant Christian Tuesday at the Eagles Nest, 25-20, 25-21, 26-24.
Senior Izzie McGuinness hit several kills for the Golden Eagles, while junior Sidney Jachimowicz made a pair of key blocks in the third set. Guerin Catholic honored its seniors at the match.
“I’m proud of all my seniors,” said GC coach Ashley Pertile. The coach said her seniors were “wonderful kids” and has known them since they were freshmen, having seen them grow and mature.
“I feel honored to be their coach,” said Pertile.
The Golden Eagles will play at the Martinsville Invitational on Saturday.
