The Noblesville volleyball team returned to action after two weeks on Saturday, hosting its own Noblesville Invitational.
The Millers advanced to the championship game, beating Western 26-24, 25-14; Jay County 25-23, 28-26 and Huntington North 25-22, 18-25, 15-9. In the final, Noblesville lost to Shelbyville 25-23, 20-25, 15-3.
Millers coach Annie Phillips said her team “worked hard this morning,” and credited them with doing “a good job of coming back when they were down.”
Riley Branch handed out 23 assists in the championship game and also served two aces. Rose Crist collected 12 digs and hit 10 kills, while Gabby Weihe had five kills and made two blocks. Ava Harris and Ella Peter both hit three kills, with Peter getting two blocks. Diana Cox had 13 digs.
Noblesville hosts Hamilton Heights on Tuesday.
Hamilton Heights is on a three-match win streak, with wins over Frankton and Lewis Cass last week, and a five-set win over Western on Thursday.
The Huskies were down two sets to one, but came back to win 23-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-20, 15-5 over the Panthers. The victory kept Heights undefeated at 4-0 in the conference, as it had earlier wins over Tipton and Northwestern. The Huskies are 6-4 overall.
After playing at Noblesville on Tuesday, Heights will host Tri-Central on Wednesday.
Carmel split a pair of matches at Providence on Saturday.
The Greyhounds fell to the host school in four sets, 25-23, 20-25, 25-18, 25-23. Macarty McQueen hit 20 kills and also had five digs and three blocks. Lauren Evans had 14 digs, nine kills and two aces. Ella Bostic dished out 35 assists to go with 10 digs and three blocks. Savanna Rogers had five kills and three blocks, while Caroline Yuska and Emily Waddell both made four blocks.
Carmel beat Jasper 25-21, 25-17, 25-15 in its second match. The ‘Hounds are now 8-7 and play at Westfield on Monday.
