Volleyball: Huskies improve to 5-0

The Hamilton Heights girls volleyball team won its first home match of the season Tuesday, beating Lebanon in four sets.

The Huskies dropped the first set 25-21, then came back and won the next three sets 25-20, 25-20, 25-16. Olivia Mackey played solid on serve receive and had several digs, while Liv Schiffli had a good all-around game.

Heights is 5-0 and hosts Carmel tonight.

Fishers began its season this week with two victories.

The Tigers swept Lawrence Central in three sets on Tuesday, then won a five-set battle over McCutcheon on Wednesday.

Fishers travels to Plainfield on Saturday to compete in the Plainfield Invitational.

Hamilton Southeastern swept Carmel Monday in the season-opening match for both teams.

The Royals won 25-13, 25-22, 25-21. Senior Madi Miles hit 14 kills for the Royals, followed by 11 for junior Brooklyn Sigler. Senior Maye McConnell served three aces, while senior Raegan Miles made five blocks.

McConnell led the Southeastern defense with 12 digs, followed by 11 digs for senior Jasmine Daniels. Daniels also dished out 19 assists, while sophomore Maggie Sliwa handed out 16 assists.

Stats for Carmel were not available at press time. The Greyhounds played defending Class 3A state champion Roncalli Wednesday and fell in four sets, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-21.

Carmel plays tonight at Hamilton Heights. The Royals’ next match is Saturday against Benton Central.

Noblesville dropped a five-set match to Mt. Vernon Wednesday, 17-25, 25-14, 25-22, 19-25, 15-8.

The Millers are 1-1 and play Tuesday at Pendleton Heights.
