Volleyball: Carmel & Noblesville have perfect days at invitationals, Shamrocks & Huskies finish season with wins

The Carmel volleyball team finished its regular season by winning its own Invitational last Saturday.

The Greyhounds won all four of their matches, starting with a 23-25, 25-21, 25-12 victory over Jennings County. Lauren Evans put down 15 kills, with London Evans dishing out 19 assists. Amanda Ailes had 12 assists and served two aces. Lauren Evans also made seven digs.

Carmel swept Brownstown Central in its second match, 25-17, 25-21. Lauren Evans collected 15 digs and hit 12 kills, with Sarah Neglia serving two aces. London Evans handed out 19 assists.

In their third match, the ‘Hounds ran away from Floyd Central in the third set, winning 17-25, 25-14, 15-6. Lauren Evans and Noema Philistin-Lynch both put down nine kills, with London Evans making 15 assists. Peyton Ulrey had seven digs and six aces, while Ailes hit two aces. Lexi Kedvesh also made seven digs.

Carmel finished the day with a 25-23, 25-20 win over Mount Vernon. Lauren Evans hit nine kills, with Philistin-Lynch hitting eight. Ulrey served three aces, while Kedvesh and Ailes both had two. Ailes also dished out 14 assists, followed by 10 from London Evans. Kedvesh made seven digs.

The Greyhounds are 14-16 and play in the second semifinal of the Zionsville sectional this Saturday, taking on the winner of Thursday’s match between Noblesville and Fishers.

Noblesville also had a perfect day last Saturday, going 4-0 to win the Lawrence North Invitational.

The Millers won all four of their matches in straight sets, starting with a 25-15, 25-18 victory over Perry Meridian. Aubrey Stitcher hit 11 kills, with Grace Langlois getting nine digs. Madison Brown dished out 31 assists and Chloe Macias had two blocks

In its second match, Noblesville took care of New Albany 25-20, 25-21. Anna Elkin led the hitting with eight kills, and Maddie Coates served two aces. Reese Resmer made three blocks, followed by Macias with two. Coates and Langlois both collected 11 digs, and Brown handed out 24 assists.

The Millers continued their run with a 25-15, 25-21 win over Homestead. Elkin put down 12 kills, while Langlois served four aces. Coates made 10 digs, and Brown fished out 25 assists.

Noblesville completed its perfect day with a 25-21, 26-24 victory over the host Wildcats. Elkin again hit eight kills, with Riley Resmer hitting seven. Reese Resmer made three blocks. Brown had 27 assists and served three aces, with Coates collecting 13 digs.

The Millers are 24-7 and play Fishers Thursday in the first round of the Zionsville sectional.

Westfield completed its regular season last Saturday with a straight set win over Wapahani 25-22, 25-9, 25-17.

Carsyn Comer and Laige Rudolph both hit eight kills, with Lilly Stanton handing out 24 assists. Stella Neale and Clara Nonte both had nine digs, with Rudolph adding eight.

Westfield is 14-15 and plays sectional host Zionsville Thursday in a first-round match.

Hamilton Heights swept Park Tudor 25-8, 25-11, 25-9 Monday to finish its regular season.

Lauren Lewis and Emma Blanton both had many serving runs for the Huskies, who finished their season 21-6. Heights plays in the semifinals of the Bishop Chatard sectional on Saturday, taking on the winner of a first-round match between Herron and the host Trojans.

University went 2-2 at the Clinton Prairie Invitational last Saturday.

The Trailblazers got their two victories over Tri-Central, winning the first match 25-20, 18-25, 16-14 and taking the second match 25-14, 25-17. University fell to West Lafayette 25-11, 25-8 and Greencastle 25-19, 25-16.

The ‘Blazers are 12-12 and play Covenant Christian Saturday morning in the first semifinal of the Sheridan sectional.
