Upgraded facilities at Sheridan Schools goes beyond athletics

It is my pleasure to provide an update to the Sheridan school community and Sheridan sports fans about facility changes that will have a positive impact on Sheridan athletics.

The facility projects go well beyond athletics, filling needs to keep Sheridan on the cutting edge in academics and fine arts, as well as physical fitness during school hours and beyond. As athletic director, my focus is on our athletic programs, so that is the focus of this update.

Every day we get a bit more excited for the completion of all our district projects, which are part of a long-term plan our school board and administration have developed with community input. There is a lot going on right now.

The fieldhouse is taking shape and has made great progress over the last few weeks, with the warmer weather being a great help to our team of contractors on site. We appreciate all the work RL Turner and the construction teams are doing on a daily basis. Recently they have been busy not only putting insulation and walls up, but also completing the roof of the fieldhouse. By the end of April, the interior work on locker room flooring and plumbing will be completed. In the fieldhouse, the basket support steel will be installed very soon and then they will commence with the concrete work around plumbing. We are excited knowing the exterior brick work will also start in the next couple weeks.

As well as all the great progress with the fieldhouse, it is also important to note that the fitness center is on track for an early fall completion. The floor has been poured and next will come electrical and concrete work. Steel is scheduled to arrive by the end of April, so we should see the fitness center take shape soon after.

Bleachers at Bud Wright Stadium have reached their end of life, so for safety we are replacing stadium seating. Our teams have completed all the concrete pillars and pathways and now we are waiting for the bleacher company to deliver the new home stadium bleachers and press box. Everything is in production and scheduled to begin construction in the early days of June.

Overall, everything is on pace to be completed on time. We appreciate all the continued support we receive from the community. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out, and we will do all we can to assist. SCS values community input and strives for transparency as we work to create the best possible experiences for our students and community. It’s truly a GREAT TIME TO BE A BLACKHAWK!
