University girls fall to Lapel

The REPORTER

University’s girls saw their three-game winning streak come to an end Saturday afternoon as they dropped a 53-38 decision at Lapel to close out a busy week.

Playing their third game in five days, the Trailblazers ran into a hot shooting Bulldog squad falling behind 20-14 after one quarter as Lapel’s Taylor Mroz drained five three pointers in the opening period. The hosts stretched their lead to 30-21 at halftime behind two triples from Jane Armington and slowly pulled away in the second half.

University led twice early in the game. Gabby Culp opened the scoring with a rebound basket and took a 7-5 lead on a Seay three-point play. Laniah Wills put the Bulldogs up for good at 8-7 with a three-point play.

Seay led University with 16 points and Gabby Culp had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Feeney had team highs in rebounds (11) and assists (4). Wills led Lapel with 23, 16 of those points coming in the second half.  Mroz finished with 15.

University is now 3-4 on the season. The Trailblazers are off until Friday when they host Muncie Burris at 6 p.m. in a Pioneer Academic Athletic Conference game.
