The University girls swim team competed in the Zionsville sectional preliminaries on Thursday.
The Trailblazers qualified swims for the championship heat of Saturday’s sectional finals. The UHS 400 freestyle relay team of Charlotte Kumler, Macy Paton, Regan Hooker and Ella Eskenazi placed fifth with a time of 4:19.72, shaving 18.8 seconds off its seed time. Kumler also took seventh in the 500 free to reach the championship heat there.
University had nine other swim reach the consolation final. Both of the Trailblazers’ other relay teams placed 10th, with Kumler, Caitlin Clark, Hooker and Paton swimming the medley and Kylar Kavanaugh, Clark, Stasia Reinholt and Eskenazi swimming the 200 free relay.
Also advancing were: Kumler in the 200 and 500 freestyles, Hooker in the individual medley and butterfly, Clark in the IM and breaststroke, and Eskenazi in the 500 free.
The sectional finals begin with the diving prelims at 9 a.m. Saturday, with the swimming and diving finals starting at 1 p.m.
