Tuesday softball: Millers beat Tigers, Hounds fall to Eagles

Noblesville advanced to the Sectional 8 softball championship on Tuesday with a 4-0 semifinal win over host Fishers.

The Millers scored their first run in the first inning. Brookelyn Grayson hit a one-out double, then Haley Schatko sent her home with a center field hit.

Nevaeh Nash scored on an error in the third inning to give Noblesville a 2-0 lead. Addi Emerson got home in the fourth inning after Addison Retzinger hit a sacrifice bunt. In the fifth inning, Schatko again singled in Grayson with a left field hit.

Grayson was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, hitting a double each time. Schatko had two hits. Retzinger pitched a complete game, with five strikeouts against two hits.

Adrianne Cook had both of Fishers’ hits. Kate Murray also pitched a complete game, striking out three.

The Millers improved to 18-7 heading into Thursday’s sectional championship game with Zionsville, while the Tigers finished their campaign 15-11.

In the second semifinal, Carmel fell to Zionsville 6-0. The Eagles scored a run in the second inning, four in the third and one more in the fourth inning. Zionsville pitcher Leah Helton held the Greyhounds to two hits, a double for Mia Fleming and a single for Chelsea Bennett.

Carmel finished its season 6-17.
