The REPORTER
University raced to a 43-13 halftime lead on their way to a 66-26 win at Indianapolis Arsenal Tech giving Coach Lisa Pryor her first win at the helm of the Trailblazers.
Sophomore Hannah Grubbs paced University posting a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Anyah Jordan-Turley had 15 points and senior Keira Bright 10 as the Blazers had three players in double figures.
University scored the first 10 points of the game holding the Titans scoreless for more than three minutes. Grubbs and Meg Rohloff each had two field goals after Mack Feeney opened the scoring. The Trailblazers led by as many as 13 points in the quarter and held a 19-10 advantage after the initial stanza.
University removed any doubt about the final outcome with a dominating second quarter performance. The Blazers scored the first 18 points of the second period, holding Tech to an old fashioned three-point play with 1:58 left in the quarter.
Leah Norvell started the second with a three pointer before finding Grubbs for a lay-in off an inbound play. Feeney scored on a put back, Bright hit a three pointer and Norvell had a rebound bucket for a 31-10 lead less than three minutes into the second. Two more baskets by Grubbs and one by Jordan-Turley made in 37-10 before Tech had its three-point play. Grubbs had two more baskets in the last 65 seconds of the half sandwiched around a Jordan-Turley score to set the 43-13 halftime margin.
Both teams struggled to score in the third quarter, notching just one field goal each and the Blazers led 50-17 entering the final contest. University finally stretched the lead to the 35-point running clock margin with 3:00 remaining when Charlotte Conyers scored off a pass from Bright.
University improves to 1-1 on the season, Tech suffered its first defeat and is 3-1.
