Tipton city officials have announced the establishment of a statutory park board, reinforcing the city’s commitment to improving and enhancing its parks.
This new board will provide strategic oversight and direction for developing, maintaining, and expanding Tipton’s parks, ensuring they continue to serve as valuable assets for residents and visitors alike. In addition, the city is committed to expanding its trail network through new and urban trail development to provide safe infrastructure for the community.

Schmicker
“Parks play a crucial role in the quality of life for any community,” Mayor Kegan Schmicker said. “They provide spaces for recreation, relaxation and connection with nature, all of which contribute to a stronger and healthier city. By improving our parks, we not only enhance the experiences of our residents, but also create opportunities to attract visiting families. This, in turn, benefits our local businesses and strengthens our economy.”
Members of the newly formed park board include:
- Gena Sowash
- Sophia Phifer
- Dylan Dietrick
- Holly Melby
Beyond its role in guiding local park improvements, establishing the statutory park board strategically positions the city to pursue grant opportunities, including the Indiana Department of Natural Resources’ Land and Water Conservation Fund. This funding could support key projects such as baseball field construction or other park enhancements, further elevating Tipton’s recreational offerings.
The statutory park board will oversee park planning, development projects, and funding opportunities, ensuring that Tipton makes informed, strategic investments in its green spaces. The city remains committed to fostering an environment where parks are a source of pride, opportunity and community engagement.
