Tigers take home 2-2 record from Warrior Classic

The Fishers baseball team played four games at the Warrior Classic at Murfreesboro, Tenn., going 2-2 at the event.

The Tigers started with two games last Friday, first beating Christian Academy of Knoxville 14-7. Fishers scored two runs in the first inning when Evan Doran’s line drive brought Huston Dunn and Noah McPeek home. In the third inning, Deagan Repp got on base with a double, stole third base and scored on an error to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

The Warriors jumped ahead 4-3 in the top of the fourth inning, but Fishers responded by putting up 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Ben Hammond tied the game by scoring on an error, then Mayo Fernandez hit a go-ahead double to bring in Doran.

Repp batted in Fernandez and Jase Ruggles with a line drive single. Later, Hammond singled McPeek home with the bases loaded. Doran was hit by a pitch in the next at bat, which scored Jack Brown. Dunn got home when Caulin Brown reached on error. Ruggles sent Doran, Trevor Hall and Hammond home after reaching on an error, and the Tigers had a 13-4 lead.

Fishers added one more run in the sixth inning when Ruggles scored on Repp’s sacrifice fly. Doran and Repp both finished with three RBIs. Jack Brown got the pitching win, striking out seven over four innings.

The Tigers dropped their second Friday game 8-2 to Wilson Central.

Fishers scored both of its runs in the third inning. Dunn doubled Repp home, then scored on Hammond’s RBI groundout.

Dunn finished the game with two hits. Gavin Kuzniewski pitched four innings, striking out eight.

In last Saturday’s action, the Tigers began the day with a 2-1 win over Bartlett.

The Panthers scored their run in the second inning. Fishers tied the game in the third inning; Repp got a run on a pitcher’s balk. In the fifth inning, Kuzniewski led off with a triple, then Repp sent home right away with a ground ball hit, his second hit of the game.

Hayden Werner got the pitching win, tossing four strikeouts in six innings.

The Tigers finished the tournament by falling to Christ Presbyterian 17-7 in five innings.

The Lions jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning. Fishers scored three in the bottom of the second on three straight singles: Hall’s left field hit brought Fernandez home, Kuzniewski batted in Hall with a right field hit, then Repp’s left field hit scored Kuzniewski.

Christ Presbyterian scored nine runs in the third inning, then added four more in the fourth. The Tigers got a run back in the bottom of the fourth when McPeek doubled in Sean Frey. Fishers then scored three in the fifth inning: Brady Carman doubled Jace Johnson home, Owen Lukac scored on an error, then Repp batted in Hall.

Jack Brown and Fernandez also hit one double.

The Tigers are 3-2. They were to play games with Zionsville on Wednesday and Thursday to open Hoosier Crossroads Conference play, but both have been postponed due to the weather. Fishers will play the Eagles on Friday in a doubleheader; more information will be announced later.
