Fishers got its biggest test of the season Friday at Center Grove, and the Tigers passed that test with an overtime victory.
Taden Metzger threw in a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send Class 4A No. 1 Fishers past the Trojans 66-65. The game was tied 59-59 at the end of regulation, but a basket by JonAnthony Hall and two free throws from Keenan Garner helped keep the Tigers in it, then Metzger made the game-winner.
Fishers led 17-10 after one quarter, with Millen McCartney making three 3-pointers. Center Grove cut the Tigers’ lead to 32-30 by halftime, but Fishers surged ahead 52-43 by the end of the third period. The Trojans outscored the Tigers 16-7 in the fourth quarter to set up overtime; Jason Gardner Jr. helped keep Fishers in it with six points.
Four Tigers finished in double figures. McCartney and Garner both scored 14; McCartney drained four 3s. Metzger had three 3s total while scoring 13 points and Gardner finished with 10.
Fishers is 8-0 and hosts its own tournament next week. The Tigers play Bloomington North at 3:45 p.m. Friday in their first game.
